The Hunchback of Notre Dame

This production features a sweeping score by Academy Award winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast) and legendary lyricist Stephen Schwartz (Wicked), who expanded their iconic 1996 film compositions with over a dozen new songs. The theatrical script, or "book," was crafted by Peter Parnell, who reimagined the story to lean more heavily into the dark, gothic roots of the source material. This adaptation draws its profound emotional weight directly from the 1831 masterpiece by Victor Hugo, the same literary giant behind Les Misérables. Together, these creators have transformed a beloved animated classic into a sophisticated, high-stakes musical drama designed specifically for the stage.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame: The Musical

Set in the shadows of 15th-century Paris, this epic musical tells the story of Quasimodo, the deformed bell-ringer of Notre Dame, and his yearning to be "out there" among the people. His world is forever changed when he encounters the spirited Romani dancer Esmeralda, whose kindness defies the cruel prejudices of the city and the strict control of Quasimodo’s devious caretaker, Archdeacon Claude Frollo.

As a web of obsession and injustice tightens around the cathedral, Quasimodo must find the courage to protect the woman he loves and discover what truly defines a monster or a man. Featuring the Academy Award-nominated score from the Disney film alongside new songs and a powerful live choir, this production is a soaring, gothic tribute to the resilience of the human spirit.

Recommended Age: 7+

While children who enjoyed the 1996 animated film are welcome, please be advised that this theatrical adaptation follows Victor Hugo’s original novel more closely. It features a sophisticated, darker tone and complex moral themes that are best suited for pre-teens, teenagers, and adults.
